Lumberville - A Very British Christmas
A very British Christmas, indeed!
Standing on the banks of the Delaware River, The Black Bass Hotel and Restaurant has been serving appreciative patrons for over 270 years in Lumberville, Pennsylvania. The Inn is most notoriously famous for being able to claim “Washington did not sleep here!“
As Commander of the Continental Army, Washington attempted to stay at the Inn in 1776 but was turned away by the innkeeper, who was a Tory Loyalist to the British Crown. From here, Washington migrated south to McConkey's Ferry, present day Washington Crossing, to surprise the Hessians on Christmas Day which was a pivotal turning point in the American Revolution.
Fast forward to the 1949, the Inn had fallen into neglect as was saved by Herbert "Herbie" Ward, an Anglophile and avid collector of all things Royal. His extensive collection is still prominently displayed in the Inn's cozy pub.
Our cranberry spice candle evokes clove notes and juicy cranberry relish reminiscent of a traditional British Christmas. Runaway hit at our Holiday 2023 Markets!

Care Instructions
Care Instructions
Trim your wick to about 1/4" before each burn. To extend the life of your candle extinguish the flame after 4 hours and trim the wick. This will ensure a long lasting candle, minimize soot and remove any mushrooming of carbon on the end of the wick.
Extinguish your candle by placing a lid on the candle.
Extreme temperature fluctuations can cause sweating. This is normal, wipe off the excess moisture, or burn you candle.
On the first burn allow the wax to melt all the way to the sides of the container. This should take 1-3 hours. Failure to do this will often cause tunneling which can limit the life of your candle.
If tunneling occurs set your oven to 175°F, and place candle in for about 5 minutes to allow the wax to level out. Remove any excess wax if needed.
